What we do: Torpedo Records is a privately owned music production company that focuses on the creation of original Reggae songs and rhythms. We also help other like-minded artists produce high-quality sounds for themselves in the studio. Coaching is available from our well-seasoned song-writer and producer, Ashes who is straight from the east side of Kingston, Jamaica. 

Background: The chief production artist Ashes, was inspired as a boy in the 70’s, by going to many live Reggae performances to hear veteran artists like General Echo, Lone Ranger, Johnny Ringo, and Welton Irie. These dance-hall shows were famous for always using traditional sound-systems that had outstanding, high-quality sound!

This is originally what motivated Ashes to start writing and producing his own traditional-style Reggae music as a young man in the 80’s, after he moved to New Jersey. 

In the late 80’s, Ashes gained priceless  experience working as a dancehall DJ on the mike, also teaming up with long-time buddy, DJ Rankin’ Larry and various promoters. Together, they shook the floors at large Reggae parties all over the tri-state area using classic sound-systems like “Sound Express” -eventually graduating to “Silverado”  which is still known to be one the best traditional-style sound-systems, today.

Jumping ahead a few years, Torpedo Records originally started in Miami in 2005 – close to 20 years ago now. There is a various artists Reggae album called Star Trek Riddim to sample on Spotify and similar sound platforms.  Check it out.
